MISSION STATEMENT:
To redefine the concepts of glamour and elegance in a way that encompasses themes of strength, inner beauty, and positive social impact through creative expression and the advocacy of social change, and to empower others to own their highest brilliance by encouraging the pursuit of their dreams and passions to better themselves and the world as a whole.
BIO:
Ruby Veridiano is a writer, speaker, arts educator, and media personality. She was born in Manila, Philippines, raised in Sacramento, CA, and has spent time in Italy, France, Atlanta, GA, and Oakland, CA, shaping her global perspective as a visionary leader. Since 2002, Ruby has traveled throughout the United States and Europe, presenting her writings, workshops, and media projects, inspiring young people to reach their full potential. As an arts activist, she aims to redefine the concepts of glamour and elegance in a way that encompasses themes of strength, inner beauty, and positive social change. In 2008, she published her first book “Miss Universe”. Ruby is currently based in New York, launching a writing empowerment program for teens, “The Glamourbaby Diaries”. Her heart lives in Oakland, California.
CAREER TIMELINE:
1995: Begins and discovers journey as a creative writer
2002: Co-Founds iLL-Literacy Spoken Word Collective wtih Adriel Luis at the University of California, Davis
2003: Joins first national poetry tour with End-Dependence Collective
2003: Founder and Editor-In-Chief of PHLEGM Magazine, arts and music publication
2004: Becomes involved with Youthspeaks SF as a Teaching Artist
2005: Accepts teaching residency at the American University of Paris, France for World Aids Week w/ iLL-Literacy
2005-2008: Tours University Circuit and venues nationwide with iLL-Literacy
2008: Becomes a VJ Personality for International Music Channel MYX TV
2008: Publishes first book Miss Universe
2009: Embarks on solo career and moves to New York City
2009: Recognized as one of 100 Most Influential Filipinas in the U.S. by Filipina Women’s Network
2009: (December) Facilitates international workshop on “The Language of Peace” for European students at the United Nations
2010: (March) Delivers the keynote address for the “Celebration of Asian American Women” at Cornell University
2010: Becomes a Top 3 finalist for Alicia Keys head blogger search for “I Am A SuperWoman” website, and flew to London to attend the Black Ball to interview Christian Louboutin, Swizz Beatz, and Alicia Keys on the red carpet.
2010: Awarded with Asian Women Giving Circle Grant to create The Glamourbaby Diaries, a writing empowerment workshop focused on Asian women’s history and a fashion framework.
